San Felice del Benaco is located in the heart of Valtenesi, on a promontory that rises on the west shore of Lake Garda and juts out into the lake covered with green meadows and Mediterranean plants.
All the areas around San Felice are so beautiful that in time past this land had earned the name Sinus Felix, or: happy cove.
The municipality is divided into 3 ancient villages: S.Felice del Benaco, Portese, Cisano. The area offers the possibility of walks along routes that allow you to enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the landscape, especially from the promontory of San Fermo.
Also part of the municipality is Isola del Garda, which is only 600 meters from the shore. On the island is the luxurious palace of the Cavazza family, surrounded by beautiful Italian gardens and a rich forest consisting of cypresses, acacias, and pines. Several guided tours are organized between April and October to explore the island.
The settlements found in this area are very ancient: pile dwellings, Roman tombstones and medieval castles have been found, some of which are still visible. In fact, the places of interest in Felice are not few: the Baroque parish church of San Felice with its 18th-century frescoes, the ruins of the castle of San Felice with the old cemetery and tower, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Carmine, the 16th-century Monte di Pietà building, the ruins of the medieval castle in Portese with the municipal library, Palazzo Cominelli in Cisano, and many other cultural assets. According to tradition, St. Francis of Assisi founded the first dormitory of Roman friars in San Felice del Benàco.
In the vicinity of the town are three important mountains, Mount of the Cross, Mount Campagnolo and Mount Santa Maria.
Lake Garda, with its microclimate allows the Mediterranean culture of lemons, oil and wine.
For cycling enthusiasts, there is an 18-km-long bicycle path that runs along the villages of San Felice del Benaco, Portese, and Cisano.
