Welcome on Lake Garda

Salo

Discover the timeless charm of Lake Garda mansions: where the elegance of the houses is mirrored in the crystal clear waters, and every view becomes a living painting. Welcome to your future retreat among the gentle waves of this Italian wonder!

Salò is a town set on a charming gulf at the foot of Mount S. Bartolomeo (m. 568) and is the “capital” of the Upper Garda area of Brescia.

Famous for Lake Garda’s mild climate and original vegetation of cypress, olive and oleander trees, it has been a tourist resort of international significance for more than a hundred years.

Its importance is primarily historical: Salò was the capital of the Magnifica Patria during Venetian rule and the seat of numerous ministries of the fascist government of the Italian Social Republic. Traces of this prestigious past are clearly evident all along the promenade on the beautiful Salò lakefront and in the elegant old town, including between Piazza Carmine, the “Fossa” and the lakefront is full of buildings of great historical-artistic value, as well as shopping opportunities.

Spending some time in Salò means choosing the peace and quiet of the hills just minutes from the entertainment, cultural vibrancy, and services that only a large center can offer.

Most of Salò’s beaches are all free, pebble beaches located right in the gulf in the Portese/SanFelice direction:

Free beach Porto Canottieri: in the direction of Mulino long stretch of free pebble beach not equipped. 600 meters from the center.

Mill Beach and Mokai Beach: pebble beach and piers. Equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, toilets and showers. Kiosk bar. Parking and theme nights. 1 km from downtown.

Dog beach: Tavina Street area

Rive Beach: large pebble beach. Possibility of boat rental.

Rimbalzello Beach (Barbarano): entrance fee; parking, park, swimming pools, sports fields, services, showers, entertainment available to customers. On weekends happy hour.

Around Salò there are many localities and attractions that can be reached even with a simple boat trip: Garda Island, Riva, Torri, Malcesine, Valentesi where you can buy Garda DOP olive oil and Garda wines, or Maderno with its magnificent lakefront, from here also Navigazione del Garda provides for the transport of cars, buses and motorcycles, two Ferries that shuttle between Toscolano Maderno and Torri del Benaco , this service allows you to avoid the coastal roads that in the high season are very crowded.

Boats and ferries offer numerous destinations on the Lombard, Veneto, and Trentino coasts.

MU.SA Museum: For the past few years, Salò has been enriched by the prestigious MU.SA Museum, which hosts major events and exhibitions.

The Cathedral and the historic center: the Cathedral Church, dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata, is the most important place of worship in Salò. Externally it appears as a rather humble and simple building, the spectacularity of the Church is found inside, where very important works are preserved. It is possible to admire the superb frescoes, the work of Vassillacchi l’Aliense, and canvases by Moretto, Veronese and Romanino. Absolutely worth visiting is also the historic center with its ancient majestic buildings and statues along the promenade, which tell moments of history.

Madonna del Rio Church – The small church dedicated to the Madonna del Rio stands in a small valley behind Salò, just after the hamlet of Renzano.

Tradition has it that the shrine was erected in the 18th century on the site of an apparition of Our Lady in a cave carved out of the Rio, where, on a white stone she is said to have left her footprint.

The church is the end point of a walk, very dear to Salodians.

The most famous towns of Lake Garda are a stone’s throw from Salò, such as Gardone Riviera with its Vittoriale degli Italiani and the Heller Botanical Garden.

The walks to be taken in this area can be suitable for everyone not just for hiking or Nordic walking enthusiasts. They are usually mostly scenic walks that offer breathtaking views often overlooking the lake, surrounded by unspoiled nature.

Here are the main routes:

Mount San Bartolomeo rises above Salò; it is a modest relief (about 600 meters), around which there is a good trail system that allows for pleasant, not too strenuous walks amidst woods, agricultural hamlets, and with a breathtaking view of the lake below.
Some churches erected in peaceful places can also be encountered along the way. Passing through the locality of Bagnolo, it then turns toward the valley of Madonna del Rio, silent and wild. Before completing the route, we pass through Renzano, a pleasant hamlet of Salò, where the church of Santa Maria Annunziata, if open, is worth a stop for the frescoes inside.

The Bassa Via del Garda trail, dedicated to Roberto Montagnoli, is a trail that can be done in any season and is suitable for everyone. The trail, which winds along small roads and paths at altitudes between 100 and 900 meters, is to be traveled over several days, crossing the various municipalities that divide Salò from Limone.

Salò-San Felice bicycle path: the tour starts from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. It continues on Via Garibaldi for 100 meters, then turns left onto Via IV Novembre. Cross the traffic circle and you will find the police station on the right. Continue past the stop sign and after a few meters you will notice on the right the first sign on Via Rillosi for the Salò-Lonato bike path. You will pass through the village of Campoverde always following the signs, which after passing Via del Panorama lead to the bike path. Arriving at the Hotel Panoramica, we cross the road and follow the bike path to the left of the structure, instead of following the Lonato sign. After about 1 km, we find a large traffic circle on the left. We cross the road to the opposite side; the bike path continues left toward Cisano and right toward Desenzano. We go left. After a few meters we are on the main road again for a short distance. Continue on the road and then turn left towards Cisano – Camping Weekend (left below). After the first curve to the right, keep right and go up through the houses of this charming little village. At the end of the road, turn right for a few meters. Immediately on the left you will find signs for the “Cisano-Baia del Vento” bike path, which will lead us to the “Baia del Vento” beach. It is possible to continue to the beach and the small port of San Felice. Following the same route will take you back to the starting point.
