Manerba del Garda is a tourist town in the province of Brescia on the Lombard shore of Lake diGarda, very easy to reach and very hospitable. It is divided into the six hamlets of Solarolo, Montinelle, Balbiana, Pieve, Crociale and Gardoncino. The residential core is protected by the looming Rocca, a massive hill overlooking the Lake, where a castle once stood, of which only the foundations are now discernible. Long is the story told by those stones, investigated by the archaeological excavations of the Civic Archaeological Museum of Valtenesi. It is a story that begins a good eight thousand years ago. Findings of small tools, weapons and bone harpoons traced back to the Lagozza culture (4000 B.C.) of a life sustained by fishing and hunting. Legend has it that Manerba was erected in devotion to the goddess Minerva. She came to hide in this valley, an important and picturesque center of the Valtenesi, where she planted her olive trees (of which she was the patroness) and taught many of her arts. Inland, magnificent agricultural estates offer the unforgettable Garda oil, D.O.C wines already prized by the Romans, horseback riding, shady trattorias with simple Mediterranean cuisine. The town of Manerba is nestled in the green moraine hills of Valtenesi, which, with the most diverse attractions, turn a simple vacation into an adventure
Manerba del Garda has no less than eleven kilometers of coastline, and the su and beaches are among the most beautiful in all of Lake Garda.
La Romantica Beach: this is the largest beach in the area and by far the most popular and best known for its wide spaces and services of all kinds, from bars, restaurants, and kiosks to the possibility of renting sunbeds, deckchairs, and water sports. Rocca Beach: consists of smooth rocky slabs to the right and a wide pebble beach toward the left. Wilder and less frequented is the area to the left, consisting of not-so-comfortable rocks. Pisenze Beach: Crystal clear waters characterize this beach, making it one of the most
beautiful in the area. Here you will find Stand Up Paddle center on Pisenze beach, where you can SUP for example at the Supgarda Sports Association. Porto Torchio beach: beach equipped with every comfort. From here Taxi boat to Isola dei Conigli. Baia Bianca: beach equipped with music and excellent facilities. Dusano Beach: free beach but well equipped. Fido Beach: An equipped beach for bringing your own dog to the beach.
Around Manerba there are localities and attractions that can be reached even with a simple boat trip: Riva, Torri, Malcesine, Gardone with its Vittoriale, Salò and its famous Saturday morning market, Desenzano with its magnificent lakefront, and Valtenesi where you can buy Garda DOP olive oil and Garda wines. Boats and ferries offer numerous destinations on the Lombard, Veneto, and Trentino coasts.
PIEVE DI SANTA MARIA IN VALTENESI: built around 1050 in the locality of Pieve Vecchia, it stands on the ruins of a much older church. The parish church of Santa Maria in Valtenesi is the oldest Romanesque monument in the area. It has three naves divided by majestic round arches resting on rectangular pillars. Worthy of all honor is the 16th-century altarpiece on the high altar created by Gian Andrea Bertanza of Padenghe, on which the Virgin and Saints Rocco, Sebastian, Siro, and Savino are depicted. Unfortunately, this majestic work fell victim to theft and the destruction of its components; the pieces found were collected in some paintings. PARISH CHURCH: In 1722 it was transferred from the Pieve to Solarolo, the design belongs to architect Antonio Spazzi and its construction took place starting in 1746. Inside, in addition to the precious frescoes in the vault and the characteristic choir made entirely of wood, there are paintings by Andrea Celesti: “Saint Angela Merici” and “Assumption.” ROCCA NATURAL PARK: The Rocca-Sasso Archaeological Nature Park corresponds to an area of about 900,000 square meters that includes the area of the Rocca and the underlying coastal strip between the localities of Dusano and Pisenze. The development of the whole area, thanks to archaeological investigations and the conservative restoration of the medieval structures of the Rocca, has allowed the definition of an equipped tourist route of high archaeological and landscape interest. Not to be missed are the remains of an ancient castle that in 1573 was destroyed by order of the Venetian Provveditore, as it had become the headquarters of bandits and now serves as a bell tower. CIVIC ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF VALTENESI: In its exhibition site within the Archaeological Nature Park, it also constitutes the reception and first information center for visitors to the established Nature Reserve of the Rocca, Sasso with adjoining Manerba del Garda Lake Park. The Museum has two distinct thematic routes, one natural and one archaeological, the latter with bilingual thematic panels through a selection of exhibits inside showcases, illustrating the settlements of the multi-layered site of the Rocca and Sasso and that of the Pieve di S. Maria, where, on the remains of a Roman villa overlooking the Lake, first early medieval housing structures and then the religious building arose. GARDA ISLAND: Garda Island, originally a Longobard Monastery connected to Brescia, of Queen Ansa also known as Schwaben , also known as Swabian Island of Frederick called Barbarossa, later Borghese or Island of the Friars, is the largest island on the lake of the same name. Today it owes its charm to the extraordinary Venetian neo-Gothic style villa, designed by architect Luigi Rovelli in the early 1900s; an imposing harmonious construction, full of striking architectural details. The island is surrounded by wonderful Italian gardens and a rich forest composed of cypresses, acacias and pines. The
luxurious palace belongs to the Cavazza family, which, since 2002, has opened it to the public and organizes guided tours from April to October. There is no public service to get there, but from the ports of the most tourist resorts on Lake Garda there is a private service of motorboats and small boats whose drivers have direct arrangements for guided tours.
Here you will feel on your skin the heavenly atmosphere of this small island. SAN BIAGIO ISLAND: Just over 200 meters from the mainland, it belongs to the municipal territory of Manerba del Garda and is located south of Garda Island . Also nicknamed “Rabbit Island” for the strong presence in the 1500s of hares and rabbits: a small treasure chest of Italy characterized by green meadows, cypresses and flowering bushes. Interestingly, during major dry periods, this strip of land can be reached on foot, an experience worth trying. Bicycle Route in Manerba:
